History:

WHEATOLEO was born of the combination of the research expertise of ARD (Agro Industrie Recherches et Développements).

ARD is a research and development company at the cutting-edge of technologies related to plant cracking, industrial biotechnologies, and green chemistry. It is an important player in the globally oriented competitive cluster Industrie Agro Ressources (IAR). Created in 1989, by visionary farming entrepreneurs, the aim of this organisation is to add value to plant biomass beyond traditional food applications.

The first work on adding value to farming co-products through the production of agro-surfactants started in 1997, with the participation of ARD in a project involving several European partners and co-financed by the EU (FAIR-CT 97-3130). After few years of intense work, backed by the ADEME and the Champagne-Ardenne region, which resulted in several theses, publications and patents on the subject, ARD has become an undisputed leader in Pentose chemistry. 

Wheatoleo was born of this research, becoming, in 2010, the first producer of APPs (Alkyl Poly Pentosides); non-ionic and renewable bio-based surfactants.
